April 8, 2015

Guest interviewee, Senior-level journalism advanced interview techniques class, Centennial College, Toronto.

My first impression of Carol, co-author of The Antarctic Book of Cooking and Cleaning, was based on learning the title of her book. I felt this must be a woman with a wonderful sense of humour and adventure most of us can only dream of. When she joined my students for an interview about her book and the experiences she and Wendy encountered during their trip to the Russian research station, those impressions proved to be the tip of the iceberg. I found Carol a passionate and articulate advocate for the environment and human rights whose eclectic skill set and creative way of looking at the world are an inspiration. Whether talking about ‘historic garbage’ left in Antarctica by explorers a century ago to describing a Christmas Eve spent singing ‘Yellow Submarine’ with Russian colleagues, Carol is a riveting, educational and engaging speaker.
